The claimant, a 51-year-old man, received £216,660 for the severe crushing injury to his left hand sustained in an accident at work. The claimant suffered from full complex regional pain syndrome, which developed in his hand. Despite undergoing continual treatment, he continued to suffer from severe pain in his middle finger, finally electing to have it amputated. However, the amputation failed to relieve the symptoms of the pain.

Responsibility For Car Accident

A ten year old cyclist who emerged from a side road without giving way was primarily responsible for a collision with a car but considering that he was a vulnerable road user it was just and equitable under s.1 Law Reform (Contributory Negligence) Act 1945 to reduce his damages not in accordance with his share of responsibility for the accident but by 50 per cent only.

Severe Road Traffic Injuries
